My thanks to the Gold Hill, Oregon City Council for retaining my services as their first City Manager. Gold Hill, incorporated in 1895, has relied upon volunteer council members to administer day to day operations. This can be a challenge for volunteers who are also working, have families and other civic and social commitments. In spite of this, Gold Hill has been fortunate to have citizens willing to find time in their busy schedules to serve their fellow residents, local business, and the traveling public. At some point, however, a professional manager can help to manage day to day operations. As City Manager I take direction from the Council, and my job is to do my best to see that their vision for our community's future, is implemented. The progress from a plan to an accomplishment sometimes seems to be a very long journey; especially in the eyes of the community. That said, when the community looks at Gold Hill through fresh eyes, I believe they will see what I see--an incredible array of recreational opportunities, an involved business community, and a host of social and civic organizations with dedicated volunteers. This is a true sign that Gold Hill is a place where people feel connected, have a sense of belonging and family, and a rich history. I am still in my earlly learning phase of getting to know Gold Hill. I am grateful for the many visits from residents, phone calls, and invitations to work with local groups. This helps me to get to know Gold Hill better and for Gold Hill to get to know me better. As we learn more about each other we can build bridges of communication. Working together and understanding one another is what it is all about. With your help, guidance from elected and appointed officials, dedicated staff, and my own history, I know that we will find the key to unlocking a golden future for our town. Again, you have my thanks for the welcome you have given me and my promise to serve Gold Hill to the best of my abilities. Please call me a (541) 858-1515 or email me at citymgr@ci.goldhill.or.us and share your concerns, hopes, suggestions or just say "howdy". I'd love to hear from you. Your City Manager, Elise Smurzynski
